My past practice includes roles as an Educator, de facto Nurse Practitioner and Residential Care Manager.
I am also a Professional Geriatric Care Manager and have an international designation of Certified Care Manager (1 of 12 in Canada). I supervise all of my Personal Care Aides, Housekeepers, Nurses and other field staff.
I firmly believe in having the right to make informed choices about health care, and having options available to support those choices.
My early nursing practice began in Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, B.C. in 1988. After gaining clinical competence, I secured a contract at a US hospital in North Carolina. After reaching a professional career goal in that hospital, I established the first private Home Care agency in the USA incorporating the new Federal Medicare rules when they came into law . This was a private community care agency called "Primary Care Nursing" (1991) . I completed my BScN (Gerontology) at University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1994.
Returning the Canada in 1997, I secured a de facto Nurse Practitioner position in the Canadian Arctic and Haida Gwaii communities. 1998 After a successful summer contract as a Medical Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard, I was seconded to be the Medical Liaison Officer with the Swiss Air Disaster in Peggy's Cove, N.S.
Happily returning to BC in the fall of 1998, I secured work in Kelowna, B.C as a Residential Care RN, and session-al instructor with private and public colleges in health care programs. After completing a double full-time Masters in Health Studies (Year 1) I concluded that Kelowna needed a private MRI Clinic. I wrote the business plan for Image One MRI clinic, secured financing and project managed. I also obtained accreditation from the Diagnostic Accreditation Program of B.C., and became it's CEO and Clinical Director when we opened in 2003. I began my MBA, when I opened the clinic in 2003 and completed my MBA in 2006. In 2010, I sold my interests in Image One MRI Clinic.
I worked as a Residential Care Manager for Interior Health Authority, and as a Manager of Clinical Practice for a private home care company. In 2011 I ran in the Federal election for Kelowna Lake Country. Shortly thereafter, I founded Advanced Home Care Solutions because I believed families and clients deserved better care than what I had observed occurring in clients homes in the community.
Our company has seen incredible growth, due to word of mouth and strategic marketing activities. We have recently established a Virtual Branch office in Victoria B.C, and are quickly gaining recognition there, as a first class home care service provider. Many families are inquiring about our new service of Professional Geriatric Care Management. As one of 12 Certified Care Managers, in Canada, I am grateful for their trust as I assist them and their loved ones, in many matters regarding life transitions.
Families are overjoyed about our on-line "Family Room", which provides them with instant access to see the care activities completed, and listen to the family friendly voice message left by the caregivers. I have just completed an "app" for smart phones, which enables families and caregivers to see care schedules, check on care provided and to contact me effortlessly.
I believe in community volunteer-ism and support a non profit organization called Arion Therapeutic Riding Farms acting as a board member.
